Martin Place Sydney

Winner of the 2017 Property Council of Australia award for Australian Development of the Year, the Stilcon-built cantilever canopy within the heritage-listed Commonwealth Bank “Moneybox Building” was a feat of construction and engineering brilliance.

DESCRIPTION

The Commonwealth Bank’s iconic Moneybox Building headquarters at 5 Martin Place, underwent a major redevelopment to add office space above the existing historic building. Key to this was a cantilever over the heritage component to support a tower above, and was one of the first in the world to use an advanced structural steel frame in its construction.
The Stilcon team was involved from the very early stages of planning in order to establish the most effective ways to fabricate the innovative structural steel framework of concrete-filled steel tubes thus combining the resistance of concrete and the construction benefits of steel.
Our team manufactured the state-of-the-art cantilever steel and installed it with minimal impact on the existing heritage aesthetic to create a multi-award-winning result and delivering savings in both cost and construction time.

TESTIMONIAL

Innovation and efficiency

The way the steel members shafted through several floors on the diagonal so the whole building itself became the structure not just components, with everything working together in a super-efficient structure is very, very innovative.
